Olde Forge/Surrey Square is a special place.  Linda and I have watched the neighborhood grow and change a lot  in the 33 years we’ve lived here.  Yet; while the demographics change, traffic gets worse, we become less rural and more citified, and more languages are spoken OF/SS remains a place where peace, quiet, and mutual respect between neighbors continue to be the watchwords. I promise you that the new Board will do our best to keep it that way amid the changes and outside pressures.

While serving as the 2nd Vice President for the last two years I learned quickly that nothing gets done without a volunteer to do it.  With that in mind please let me thank all of you who indicated your interest in supporting one or another community activity when filling out membership forms during the recent drive.  We’ll let you know when the Board or a committee needs a little extra help and I hope you’ll have some time for the neighborhood when the opportunity arises.

Happy-meeting-participantsThe Old Forge Surrey Square Civic Association will be holding its annual meeting on:

Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Lord of Life Church
7:00 p.m.

It has been a pleasure serving the neighborhood these past two years in the role of Civic Association President.

However, every two years the Civic Association solicits nominations and holds elections at the annual meeting for new board members.

It is with regret that no one other than three of the current board members volunteered to remain on the board. The board will be short two offices as we move into the 2011-2013 term. If there is anyone interested in serving on the board, please contact me at 703-978-4333.
